AAFW 2022 Day Two: St. Agni embraces the risque side of minimalism

Despite the chilly May weather, summer moments were out in full force with resort collections that have us planning our next European summer escape.

Oroton began the day with a collection that exuded ‘resort’ in every sense. The popsicle-coloured showcase featured eyelet lace, sun dresses and the ultimate statement swimwear. Certainly a collection for languid afternoons spent poolside.

Next was We Are Kindred’s intimate picnic affair. Not a “show” in the classic sense, this dreamy brand chose to show off its girlish and romantic resort collection in a picturesque setting overlooking the water in Mosman. A pastiche of white, peach and periwinkle, we saw billowing sleeves, crochet textures and period-collar detailing.

Back onsite we saw Matteau showing a collection with more structure than we’re used to seeing from the purveyors of swim and resortwear. While the tailored pants – paired with billowing oxford shirts – leaned more formal than we’re used to from Matteau, the relaxed cuts mean that these shirts and pants feel just as at home thrown over a wet bikini as they do in the office. Of course, there were still plenty of the label’s signature breezy dresses plus a printed shirt or two.

At 3pm, St. Agni summoned elements of both 90s and early 00s nostalgia, translating them into the label’s signature minimalist language. Hip-bone grazing skirts were paired with co-ordinated tops that bared a strip of belly. Meanwhile silvery sheer slips a la Kate Moss transported us to the heyday of party culture.
