6 businesses giving back the right way this International Women’s Day 2022

Like so many other days that were originally designed to propel equality, International Women’s Day is all to often a day commodified by corporations and businesses looking to make a buck. You shouldn’t have to buy something you don’t need – like a branded water bottle or slogan tote bag – so that “$1 from every purchase” will be given to a women’s charity. It’s very environmentally unfriendly.

But amongst the marketing noise, there are a few businesses trying to do some real good for humankind. And we think it’s important to celebrate these moves and call out success when we see it. With this in mind, here are x business that are making a real difference this International Women’s Day.

Linkedin

As an official International Women’s Day partner, Linkedin has some excellent initiatives in place for the month of March. We know that women were hit hardest by the job losses from COVID-19, and for many women, there are still so many barriers preventing them from entering or re-entering the work force. With this in mind, LinkedIn will be offering free access to learning paths throughout the month of March including the below:

St Agni

It’s a big move by a small designer – especially one from the Northern Rivers region, which has been so badly affected by the 2022 floods – but regardless, St Agni will be donating 100 percent of all its online sales on 8 March (IWD). The money will go to to UN Women – an organisation committed to advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women.

DISSH

Australian clothing label DISSH is coming at IWD from a different lens this year. Rather than money, it’s participating in the Encoreship return-to-work initiative. We know that one of the biggest barriers for many women returning to or entering the work force is relevant and recent work experience. The initiative was designed to help women get a foot in the door, upskill, build confidence, create connections and set themselves up for their future careers. In honour of IWD, DISSH is offering a three-month working placement at its Queensland headquarters.

Adore Beauty

Adore Beauty is another brand engaging in the Encoreship return-to-work initiative, with a role in its Melbourne office available. It’s a paid opportunity for three-months, designed to build transferrable skills that will be the starting point for a new carrier. Read more about the Encoreship the opportunity.

Alpha H

Also a participant of the Encoreship return-to-work initiative, with a product manager role available in its Melbourne office. In addition, Alpha H has another initiative partnering with Gold Coast charity Support the Girls. This partnership has seen the brand donate over $10,000, gift over 1000 products and offer hours of strategy and mentorship to other women.

McMullin & co.

Similar to St Agni, furniture and homewares designer McMullin & Co will be donating 50 percent of its profits on March 8th to its charity of choice, Women‘s Global Empowerment Fund – an organisation which invests in women and families developing programs which address inequalities and produce reductions in poverty and marginalisation.
