Penfolds is offering tastings of its world-famous Grange (and more)

Ever wanted to get your palate around some of Penfolds’ famous Grange wine? Here’s your chance. The brand’s “immersive” wine tasting event is on again for 2025.
It’s called “Transcend” and it’s happening in the heart of Sydney after touring the world. Since its last appearance in Sydney, Transcend has popped up everywhere from Hong Kong to London. With its return to Sydney, Penfolds is offering full wine flights, including the famous Grange.
What’s the big deal over Penfolds Grange?
If you’ve ever poked around the fine wine section of a bottle shop and wondered what makes Penfolds Grange so special, listen up. Grange is arguably Australia’s most famous wine. It’s a drop that collectors around the world obsess over, and one that’s helped put Australian winemaking on the global map.
I know someone who – in lieu of getting a typical gift for a baby shower – will pick up that year’s Grange. That way, it can cellar for 18 years and appreciate both in flavour and value by the time said-child is of drinking and/or investing age. (Btw, I spoke to a wine investment guru recently from LANGTONS who has some tips on how you can get started investing in wine if you’re interested)
Grange has been around since the early 1950’s. Max Schubert who worked at Penfolds put together a nifty full-bodied Shiraz that was so ahead of its time, he had to keep it under wraps for a few vintages. Today, top vintages of Grange regularly sell for thousands of dollars and are often cellared for years before they’re even opened – if they’re opened at all.
Sadly, the Grange range is celebrated, but rarely tasted. For many, it’s a wine you hear about more than you actually drink. That’s what makes Penfolds’ Transcend event so compelling. For once, Grange is not just something you read about in tasting notes. It’s something you can experience for yourself.
Penfolds Transcend 2025: which wines are on offer?
From 2–11 May 2025, Penfolds will park the ultra-premium Transcend tasting experience in the Sydney Arcade off Pitt Street Mall. And it’s more than just a folding table and a few glasses of wine, too. The event blends immersive soundscapes, cinematic storytelling, and world-class wine – with tastings from across Penfolds’ international portfolio.
The 2020 Grange vintage, will be poured alongside labels like the NV Champagne Cuvée Brut, French Winemaking Trial FWT 585, and Bin 600 California Cabernet Shiraz. That mix – Australia, France, and the US – reflects Penfolds’ growing global ambitions, and each pour comes with a side of theatre. You’re not just sipping wine; you’re moving through a sensory journey curated by one of Australia’s most prestigious wineries.
How to get into Penfolds Transcend 2025
Tickets are $150 AUD per person and include a full tasting flight, access to the immersive space, and storytelling-led wine pairings. Sessions run across multiple time slots daily, from 2–11 May 2025, at Pitt Street Mall’s Sydney Arcade.
You don’t need to be a Penfolds member to attend – it’s open to the public – but spots are limited. If you’ve ever been curious about what makes Grange so revered, this is your chance to try it in a context that brings the story behind the wine to life.
