Hamilton’s Khaki Field Murph 38mm gets an Interstellar anniversary update
Nerds rejoice! There are two new versions of the iconic Hamilton Khaki Field “Murph” now on the market, just in time for the 10th anniversary of Interstellar.
What is it?
If you sit perfectly in the middle of the Venn diagram for watch nerds and film nerds, you know Hamilton. For those who don’t, they’re rugged field watches with a long history of appearing in films.
One such watch is the Hamilton Khaki Field watch, nicknamed the “Murph”. The Murph appeared in one of my iconic faves, Interstellar. Jessica Chastain’s character – Murph – uses the watch to communicate with her “ghost” across time in a beautiful way. No spoilers if you haven’t seen it yet!
The near-future setting of Interstellar is perfect for a timeless and gorgeous watch, and now it’s getting an update for the 10th anniversary of the Nolan classic.
The update includes two new models: the white-dialled H70405710 and the black-dialled H70405130.
The white-dial model features the classic and rugged leather strap, while the black-dial model features a stainless steel bracelet for a bit of smartening up.
Both watches come in at 38mm on the wrist, and are understated in their dial design. Clean lines and Arabic numerals feature sharply on the face that is swept effortlessly by nickered hands and Super-LumiNova posts for great legibility in low-light.
Inside the case, almost nothing has changed. This is mostly just a cosmetic update. There’s still Hamilton’s H-10 automatic movement on the inside, and you get 100m of water resistance for true field practicality. And to make sure it survives all the same adventures you do, the Murph still packs the sapphire crystal glass with its anti-reflective coating.
And, it’s still super affordable.
Pricing and release date
Both 38mm Murph models are now available to order from Hamilton’s website. The white dial version (H70405710) comes in at $895 USD, while the black dial with stainless steel bracelet (H70405130) is priced at $945 USD.
